On the 20th of April, 2020, DTS-NEWMAP SPMU (comprising the Project Coordinator, Project Engineer, Administrative Officer and Pilots), Focal NGO officials (Executive Director, Communication Officer and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer) and the DTS-Focal NGO (GPD) facilitated a roundtable dialogue between Levant Construction Company and the critical stakeholders (The Palace representative, Community Association Chairman, Site Committee Chairman) of Owanta Community in presence of the Owanta Prince (Prince Amos and Prince Bright), to discuss and amicably resolve all grievances raised by the Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and some of the project Critical Stakeholders regarding perceived neglect, abuse of office, and violations. Specifically, the purpose of the meeting was to settle the dispute between Levant Construction Company and Prince Bright the appointed Community Liaison Officer (CLO) for Owanta Community. The major causes of the dispute were employment of community members as casuals instead of technicians by Levant Construction Company, refusal of the CLO to consent to Levant’s dismissal of ill-behaved reps of the communities that formed part of the project workforce, dispute over the choice of candidate currently filling the role of CLO, lack of payment to the CLO and other community accountability structures, and low payment rates to labourers.
