COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ON LAND ALLOTMENT FOR CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION INTERVENTION
Sequel to GPD earlier visits to intimate Communities on the Climate Adaptation Change Project, DTS-NEWMAP SPMU (comprising of the Natural Resource Officer, Geographic Information System Officer, and Communication Officer), in support of the DTS-Focal NGO (GPD), and the Principal Consultant for the CAC Project paid a courtesy visit to HRM Obi 1 of Ukwu-Nzu and the Obi of Obomkpa Communities to validate the ownership and security of the land, as well as document and engage the farmers and livestock holders selected by the communities to pilot the Climate Adaptation Change project in the communities on 25th March, 2020. Importantly, as a core commitment of GPD to ensure that the dividends of democracy get to the poor, vulnerable and marginalized, especially women and girls, care was taken by DTS-NEWMAP Focal NGO (Global Peace Development) to ensure there was gender balance and inclusion in the list of farmers and livestock holders selected by the communities to pilot the Climate Adaptation Change project.
MONITORING & ASSESSMENT OF ONGOING CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION INTERVENTIONUpon the commencement of the Climate Adaptation Change Project, GPD, in support of the DTS-NEWMAP SPMU (comprising of the Natural Resource Officer, Geographic Information System Officer, and Communication Officer), and the Principal Consultant set out to the beneficiary communities to monitor project progress and ensure its compliance to standards as contained in the TOR of the hired consultant. The farmers and livestock holders piloting the project were also engaged to document unforeseen challenges, so as to proffer solutions that would prevent any negative outcomes for the project 27th March, 2020.
