DELTA STATE-NIGERIA EROSION AND WATERSHED MANAGEMENT PROJECT (DTS-NEWMAP)

The Delta State-Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (DTS-NEWMAP) is a World Bank Assisted intervention with counter-part funding from the Delta State Government.

The project is being implemented by the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) under the Ministry of Environment and  Global Peace Development was engaged as the focal NGO to ensure inclusive community participation for transparency and accountability of the intervention across the beneficiary communities.

Specifically, DTS-NEWMAP seeks to reduce the vulnerability to soil erosion in targeted sub-catchments while addressing the factors that contribute to gully erosion, flood menace and environmental challenges that contribute to exacerbate poverty among members of the affected communities whose sources of livelihood depend largely on arable land for agricultural activities.
The intervention is currently being implemented in five communities; Obomkpa and Ukwu-Nzu communities in Aniocha North LGA, Owanta community in Ika North East LGA, Jesse Town in Ethiope West LGA, and Ubulu-uku community in Aniocha South LGA.
