LAUNCH OF NASARAWA STATE ACTION PLAN (SAP) ON UNITED NATION SECURITY COUNCIL RESOLUTION 1325 ON WOMEN PEACE AND SECURITY.
The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development (MWASD) in collaboration with ActionAid Nigeria (AAN), Global Peace Development (GPD) and Beacon Youth Initiative (BYI), officially lunched the Nasarawa State Action Plan in line with the United Nation Council Resolution 1325 for peace and security of Women and Girls in Nasarawa State. The State Action Plan (SAP) in Nasarawa State was published as part of ActionAid Nigeria effort towards supporting communities to strengthen community resilience and to tackle violent extremism in Nigeria but with a specific focus on Nasarawa State under the “System and Structure Strengthening Approach against Radicalization to Violent Extremism (SARVE II) Project” with the aim of equipping communities with sustainable ability, capacity and structures to utilize available resources to prevent radicalization, respond to, withstand and overcome impact of adverse violent extremism should it occur.
In line with the above, the SAP in Nasarawa State was lunched to address conflict and other forms of violence against women and girls by safeguarding women’s right from abuse and all forms of violation through promotion of actions The SAP lunch which held on 6th August, 2020 had in attendance the Executive Governor of Nasarawa Sate, Eng Abdullahi A. Sule, The Country Director ActionAid Nigeria Ms Ene Obi, The UN Women Country Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS Ms. Comfort Lamptey highly represented by Mrs Bukola and other relevant stakeholders and partners.
Objectives
- To strengthen and support institutions, associations, and CSOs to respond to and protect women, children and girls particularly from sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse
- To advocate and ensure the inclusion of women in governance at the state, local, ward and community levels
- To strengthen the roles of women in community to engage effectively in peace building and security issues
