The Women and Girls project is in line with the United Nation’s Security Council Resolution 1325, the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) and the national action plan 2014.

The intervention seeks to empower women and girls to break the culture of silence through Community Peace Clubs and community theatre. Essentially, through the Peace Clubs intervention, women and girls voices would be heard in policy decision and during implementation of the policies thereby encouraging and empowering women and girls to take on leadership roles in governance and peace building platforms.
To ensure inclusivity of vulnerable groups within the Project Impact Areas (PIA), persons with disability were engaged from the commencement of the intervention in the six target communities (Agbarha-Otor, Uwheru, Agbassa, Ekurede Urhobo, Ibrede and Ashaka) located in Ughelli North, Warri South and Ndokwa East Local Government Areas
The intervention “Empowerment of Women and Girls for Conflict Prevention and Peace Building” is supported by the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP) of the British Council, and implemented by Global Peace Development (GPD) and the Delta State branch of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS).
